Romance with Depth, Grit, and Heart
Hi! I’m Sophie Toovey — a Welsh author, English teacher, and lover of stories that stay with you long after the last page. My favourite books range from Pride and Prejudice to Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking trilogy to The Secret Garden. I’ve always been drawn to stories with wit, courage, and emotional punch.

My books span genres — from romcom to dystopian romance to YA — but romance is always the heartbeat. Expect swoon (kisses‑only), witty banter, strong female leads, and flawed characters who grow through the grit. My Christian faith shapes the way I write: grace, redemption, and hope run through everything I create.
I describe my writing as clean, not sweet. I’m not interested in fluffy clichés; I want love that costs something. And while I adore a good ending, I often lean toward “Happy For Now” — because love is just the beginning of the real adventure.
A Few Things About Me
I’m a planner (Enneagram Type 3), a lover of period dramas, and a firm believer that a blanket and good shortbread can fix almost anything. My teaching life inspired the Bell Time series — though I promise I never fell for a colleague or competed for a promotion.
My Books
- Romcoms: Bell Time and Wedding Bell Time follow two teachers navigating chaos, chemistry, and the hilarity of school life.
- Free Novella: I Want You Back — a modern retelling of Persuasion — is free for newsletter subscribers.
- Dystopian Romance: The Day of the Dice begins a series blending enemies‑to‑lovers tension, fake engagement, and a world on the brink.
- YA: This Bud of Love (Christian YA romance) and The Castle (a reality‑TV‑meets‑drama‑school story).
