Cosy night in: My fav DVDs and the books they’re based on

Lorna Doone – rural, English Civil War, and mafia-style family. A beautiful romance based on the book by RD Blackmore.

Emma – Romola Garai is perfect in this BBC Jane Austen adaptation. This hardcover edition of the book is beautifully decorated with flowers.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 – The part where Harry dances with Hermione… I like to imagine they ended up together instead of Ron getting in the way. The book is great too although I wish she hadn’t written the 19 years later epilogue.

My Fair Lady – Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison are just perfect in this. So many awesome songs, too. Based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.

The Importance of Being Earnest – Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth. This one makes me laugh! Based on the play by the brilliant Oscar Wilde.

Gone with the Wind – Such a fantastic, sweeping scope of the American Civil War, and the book is a real page-turner too.

Nicholas Nickleby – This adaptation is done so well. Classic Dickensian plot. I love the book too.

Divergent – Theo James is a smouldering Four, and I love the dynamic between him and Shailene Woodley as she transforms from Abnegation (read Amish) to Dauntless (read Rock Chick who Can Fight). But I do love the book version because there’s just more swoooon detail. This box set is great because you can’t just read Book 1 in this series…
